Every membership includes your digital closet, unlimited listings on The Shed, and one pickup or retrieval per month. There are no onboarding or listing fees. When an item sells on The Shed, Starmoire takes a 15% commission from the sale price. During your complimentary first month, your initial pickup and one retrieval are included. After that, receive one pickup or one retrieval per month at no additional charge; additional pickups and retrievals are $50 each.
Applicable sales tax is added to paid memberships and services where required.
Yes. You can request cancellation at any time.
We’ll coordinate the return of your wardrobe, and your membership will end once your items have been returned.
If you cancel after your paid membership begins, your membership continues through one final billing period. You’ll be charged one final membership fee on your next regular billing date, and your membership will end at the conclusion of that period. We’ll confirm your end date when you cancel and coordinate the return of your stored items and any eligible unsold items from The Shed.
When you join, you’ll select a membership tier based on how many items you expect to send us. After intake, we’ll confirm your items under management – including pieces in storage and items listed on The Shed – and adjust your tier if your item count exceeds the one you selected.
Before your first paid invoice, we’ll send you a billing notification confirming your item count, membership tier, monthly price, and upcoming billing date. Your payment method on file will be charged through Stripe on your regular billing date.
Invoices may also include applicable service charges, such as additional pickups or retrievals, and sales tax where required.
Your tier is based on the number of items Starmoire manages for you, including pieces in storage and items listed on The Shed.
You can move to a larger tier at any time through your digital closet. The additional capacity is available immediately, and the price difference is prorated for the rest of your current billing cycle. If your item count exceeds your tier’s capacity, we’ll let you know and recommend a better fit. We’ll confirm any change with you before it takes effect.
You can also move to a smaller tier through your digital closet. The change takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle, as long as your item count fits within the smaller tier.
Yes. If you’ve received a Starmoire offer, it may be applied to your account automatically or you may be given a code to enter when selecting your membership. The applicable discount will appear on your invoice.
Offers vary and may have their own terms. If you’re unsure how an offer applies – or whether it can be combined with another promotion – contact our team before completing your membership setup.
Starmoire is a live service, and we’ll continue to improve it as we grow in NYC. Features, service details, and pricing may change over time as we learn what works best for members. We’ll let you know about any changes that affect your membership.
Our goal is to build a seamless long-term experience that continues to make storing, managing, and reselling your wardrobe feel effortless.
Getting Started
Once you’re invited to Starmoire, you’ll receive an activation email with a secure link to create your account and set your password.
From there, you’ll enter the Starmoire platform and begin onboarding. During onboarding, you'll also select a membership plan and add a payment method before scheduling your first pickup.
After your pickup, our team will carefully intake, photograph, catalog, and store your items as we begin building your digital closet. Once your closet is live, you’ll be able to view your stored items, request returns on demand, track your closet’s estimated value, and move pieces into The Shed that you’re ready to sell.
Pick-ups, Intake, & Retrieval
You can schedule your pickup directly through your Starmoire account by selecting an available date and time window from the calendar. During scheduling, you’ll provide your pickup address and a few details to help our team coordinate the pickup.
You can also reschedule or cancel pickups directly from your account at any time.
You can schedule a pickup from any address within our NYC service area.
Have more than one location? No problem – you can choose the address you want during scheduling.
During the pilot, pickups can typically be scheduled starting 72 hours in advance. Available appointment windows are visible in your account on a rolling two-week calendar.
As we continue expanding throughout NYC, availability may occasionally be limited, so we recommend booking ahead when possible. If you don’t see a time that works for you, feel free to contact the Starmoire team directly and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Most members use our Standard Pickup service, designed to make pickup as easy as possible.
- Standard Pickup
Simply place your items in a bag or bags and arrange for a quick handoff with you, someone in your household, or your building staff.
We'll take everything for processing and confirm what we've received once your items have been photographed, cataloged, and added to your digital closet.
Standard pickup takes just a few minutes.
- White Glove Pickup (VIP Members only)
For larger wardrobes or special pickup needs, White Glove Pickup is available for our VIP members.
Have your items set aside at home and we'll take care of the rest. Your Pickup Coordinator will briefly review the pickup with you so you can confirm exactly what's being collected before it leaves your home.
- During the complimentary month: one pickup and one retrieval
- Afterward: one pickup or one retrieval per billing cycle
- Additional appointments: $50 each
Yes. You can cancel or reschedule at no cost up to 24 hours before your scheduled pickup. Make the change through your booking or contact our team for help.
Getting ready for pickup is easy.
Make sure your items are clean
Please send garments clean, completely dry, and free of visible soil or stains, strong odors or heavy fragrance, excessive lint or pet hair, and any signs of pests. Items do not need to be freshly dry-cleaned, and light wrinkles are fine – we’ll prepare them during intake.
Place your items in bags
You do not need to fold, hang, photograph, or catalog your items in advance. We'll take care of that during intake.
- Reusable shopping bags, tote bags, laundry bags, garment bags, moving bags, and garbage bags all work well for pickup.
- Because bags will not be returned, we recommend using bags you're comfortable parting with.
- Have garments that don't fit easily in a bag, such as gowns or oversized outerwear? Let us know before your pickup and we'll coordinate with you directly.
A quick count is helpful, but not required.
If you're able to, we recommend doing a quick count of the items you're sending to help ensure you're within your selected membership plan. If not, no problem at all, our team will count and verify your items during intake. If your item count requires a different membership tier, we'll notify you accordingly.
No need to organize by category
Seasonal pieces, occasionwear, sweaters, coats, and items you might want to sell can all be packed together. Once they’re in your digital closet, you can decide what to keep in storage and what to move to The Shed – now or later.
Have your bags ready for collection
A Starmoire Pickup Coordinator will collect your items during your scheduled pickup window.
Please note that our Pickup Coordinators are unable to enter apartments or residences. Please plan for a quick handoff at your door, lobby, with building staff, or another designated meeting location.
Need additional assistance coordinating your pickup? Contact us and we'll be happy to discuss available VIP pickup support options.
We'll handle the rest.
After pickup, your items are photographed, cataloged, and added to your digital closet. You'll receive an email once your wardrobe is ready to view.
Still have questions? Contact the Starmoire team and we'll be happy to help.
Please send clothing that is clean, completely dry, and ready for storage. Items should be free from:
- Visible soil, stains, food, perspiration, or other residue
- Heavy fragrance from perfume, smoke, detergent, or fabric products
- Visible pet hair
- Dampness, mildew, or strong odors
- Visible pests or evidence of pest activity, including larvae, webbing, or insect cases
If an item needs attention, a member of the Starmoire team will contact you. We may recommend professional cleaning services, which we can coordinate with your approval for an additional fee, or arrange to return the item to you.
Items with signs of pests, heavy odors, or stains beyond normal wear and tear may be refused and returned at your expense.
Starmoire conducts a practical inspection during intake but cannot guarantee that an item is free from microscopic contaminants, latent odors, or concealed pest activity.
If we identify a condition issue during intake, we may add a flag and note to the item in your digital closet:
- 🔴 Red Flag Item: The item can be stored but does not meet The Shed’s condition standards and cannot be sold through our platform. You may continue to store it, retrieve it, or request that it be donated.
- 🟡 Yellow Flag Item: The item can be stored but must be professionally cleaned before it can be sold on The Shed. If you move it to The Shed, we’ll provide a cleaning estimate for your approval. Starmoire will coordinate the cleaning, invoice you separately, and let you know when the item is ready for sale. You may also continue to store it, retrieve it, or request that it be donated.
- 🧺 Cleaning in Progress: The item is currently being professionally cleaned by Starmoire. No action is needed from you. We’ll update the item and let you know when the cleaning is complete.
- Condition note: We may document a minor condition issue that does not require any action from you. If you later move the item to The Shed, the issue will be photographed and disclosed in the listing, and the item will be sold as-is.
In the uncommon event that an item cannot be accepted for storage, it will not be added to your digital closet. We’ll keep it separate from other garments, contact you, and arrange for its return.
A Starmoire Pickup Coordinator will arrive at your home at your scheduled time to collect your items.
We currently have two pickup styles:
Standard Pickup:
Simply leave your items in a bag, with your doorman, or someone who can hand them off quickly. This option takes just a few minutes.
- Fast and easy: Pickup takes just a minute
- Flexible storage: Send any clothing items you’d like (for the pilot, clothing only – no shoes, bags, or accessories)
- Handled with care: Items are securely transported for processing
- Post-pickup confirmation: We’ll photograph and catalog your items during intake at our facility
- Processing & notification: Your items are typically processed and added to your digital closet within 5-7 business days, and you’ll be notified when they’re ready to view
White Glove VIP Pickup:
For larger wardrobes or special pickup needs, White Glove Pickup is available for VIP members. Our Pickup Coordinator will come into your home, help gather items, and review the pickup with you so you can confirm exactly what’s being collected before it leaves your home.
- Effortless pickup: No need to prepare or list items – we handle it
- Flexible storage: You can send any clothing pieces you’d like to store (for the pilot, clothing only – no shoes, bags, or accessories)
- Quick item confirmation: You’ll confirm the pickup batch on the spot
- Handled with care: Items are securely transported to our facility
- Processing & notification: Your items are typically processed and added to your digital closet in about 5-7 business days, and you’ll be notified when they’re ready to view
Items are carefully transported to our storage facility where they are:
- Cataloged and photographed
- Assessed for condition
- Added to your digital closet
You’ll be notified as soon as your closet becomes available.
Your first retrieval is complimentary during your first month. After that, your membership includes one pickup or one retrieval per billing cycle. If you’ve already used your included appointment, an additional retrieval is $50.
Same-day retrieval is available for $100, subject to availability.
Items typically appear in your digital closet within 5-7 business days after pickup.
We’ll notify you as soon as your items have been successfully onboarded and are ready to view.
Yes. Stored items can be returned to you on demand.
Simply schedule a retrieval through your digital closet by selecting the item(s) you’d like returned and choosing a time that works for you. We’ll coordinate delivery directly to you.
You can request as many items as you’d like in a single retrieval. Simply build your retrieval cart in your digital closet, and we’ll coordinate delivery. Most members group items together (for a trip, season, or occasion) to make the most of each retrieval.
If you have a larger request, we may coordinate timing with you to ensure everything arrives smoothly.
When you request and schedule a retrieval, we’ll coordinate a return delivery and bring your items back to you via courier.
During the pilot, someone must be available to receive the delivery at your address – either you or a doorman/concierge – within the scheduled window.
If you need to reschedule or cancel, we ask that you let us know at least 24 hours in advance.
We deliver to any address in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, or the Bronx. We do not currently serve Staten Island.
You can use different addresses for pickups and retrievals – just select the correct one when you schedule.
Retrievals are scheduled directly through your Starmoire account, similar to pickups. Simply select the items you’d like returned and choose an available delivery appointment from the rolling two-week calendar.
During the pilot, delivery appointments are generally available starting 72 hours in advance. Because deliveries are scheduled appointments, someone must be available to receive the items at the selected address.
If you don’t see a delivery time that works for you, you can contact the Starmoire team directly and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Need something sooner? Expedited same-day retrieval may be available for an additional $100. Please contact the Starmoire team to coordinate.
Yes. You retain ownership of your items while your membership remains active and in good standing. Starmoire stores and manages your wardrobe on your behalf, but nothing is sold, listed, or otherwise moved without your approval.
Once an item is sold, ownership transfers to the buyer. You'll receive a record of the sale in your digital closet, along with payout details.
Policies regarding overdue accounts, unclaimed items, and membership termination are subject to Starmoire's Terms of Service.
We are working on donation partnerships and hope to be sharing more about our donation partnerships during the pilot.
Storage, Care & Condition
Items are stored in a clean, climate-controlled, scent-neutral environment. We hang items in individual, breathable garment bags. Items that can't be hung may be stored in ventilated bins.
Starmoire currently accepts clothing, including tops, bottoms, dresses, jumpsuits, sweaters, outerwear, sets, and suiting. We’re not yet accepting shoes, bags, hats, accessories, lingerie, or swimwear.
Focusing on clothing helps us give every piece the care and attention it needs, from intake and storage to resale. We plan to expand into other categories over time and will share updates as we do.
Starmoire does not store fur garments at our facility. If a fur garment is included in your pickup, we’ll contact you about transferring it to our trusted cold-storage partner or returning it to you.
Our standard membership tiers cover up to 20, 50, or 100 items under management. That count includes pieces in your Stored Closet and items listed for sale in My Shed.
Have more than 100 items? Contact our team to discuss a VIP membership tailored to your wardrobe.
We accept items in a wide range of conditions for storage.
During intake, our team carefully inspects each piece and assigns a condition rating to ensure consistency and transparency – especially for resale. Any noticeable flaws noted during intake will be photographed and catalogued in the digital closet.
Items that are not suitable for storage (for example, anything with strong odors or signs of pests) will be returned to you.
We inspect every item during intake to determine whether it meets our storage standards. If an item needs attention, our team will contact you. We may recommend professional cleaning, which we can coordinate with your approval for an additional fee, or arrange to return the item to you.
Items listed on The Shed must also meet our resale standards. When you move a piece from your digital closet to The Shed, we review its cleanliness, condition, and presentation again. Routine preparation, such as lint removal or fabric-appropriate steaming, is included at no additional charge. If professional cleaning is needed before an item can be listed, we’ll share the price and get your approval first. A piece that isn’t eligible for resale can remain in storage if it meets our storage standards.
Items with signs of pests, heavy odors, or stains beyond normal wear and tear may be refused, returned at your expense, or quarantined and treated for an additional fee.
While we take great care in handling and storing your clothing, we cannot guarantee that items arrive free from microscopic, concealed, or latent contaminants. Maintaining a clean, carefully managed storage environment is a top priority for us.
Items are stored in a clean, climate-controlled, scent-neutral environment.
From pickup through storage, every item is carefully handled, tracked, and maintained by our team.
We also partner with a trusted insurance provider to protect your items while they’re in our care – so you can store with confidence knowing your pieces are covered.
Please check all pockets and remove personal belongings before your pickup.
During processing, our team does its best to identify and document anything left inside a garment, but Starmoire is not responsible for personal belongings left in pockets or garments. If we find an item, we’ll notify you and arrange to return it. Any associated shipping or delivery costs are the client’s responsibility.
Your Digital Closet (My Closet)
Your closet is a digital, clear, organized view of everything you have stored with Starmoire – accessible anytime.
My Closet is your digital home for the pieces you’ve placed in Starmoire’s care. It gives you an organized view of your stored wardrobe and the tools to decide what happens next.
You can:
- Explore your stored wardrobe
Search, sort, and filter your items, or organize them into customizable shelves. - See every piece documented
View the photos and details Starmoire adds during intake. - Add your own notes
Record details, context, or memories you want to keep with an item. - Send us more clothing
Schedule a pickup when you’re ready to make more space at home. - Get pieces back
Request a single item or add multiple pieces to a retrieval cart. - Understand your closet’s value
Explore resale value estimates and demand insights through Valuette, and see the estimated value of your stored closet. - Choose what to sell
Move pieces to My Shed when you’re ready. We’ll review and prepare eligible items for listing on The Shed.
Items in both your Stored Closet and My Shed count toward your membership’s items under management.
Managed Items represent the total number of items currently being handled through your Starmoire membership. This includes both items in your Stored Closet and items in My Shed.
Your Managed Items count may include:
- Items in storage
- Items being prepared for The Shed (processing or ready)
- Items currently live in The Shed (live)
- Items pending sale
Items remain part of your Managed Items total until they are sold or delivered back to you.
The Vault lets you mark pieces you consider especially important – whether for sentimental, personal, archival, or long-term reasons.
Vault items stay visible in your digital closet and are treated as “keep” pieces within the Starmoire system, meaning they won’t be suggested for resale or moved to The Shed without additional confirmation from you first.
My Shed
My Shed is your personal selling space within your digital closet. It’s where you manage the items you’ve chosen to shed, track their status, and control pricing.
Select an item from your Digital Closet and choose “List on Shed.”
It will move to My Shed while our team prepares the listing, including any necessary measurements, condition notes, photography, and product details.
Once the listing is ready and approved, it will go live on The Shed. Select items may also be featured in a curated edit, drop, or featured closet.
Items in My Shed move through a few simple stages:
- Processing: Your item is being prepared for The Shed.
- Ready: Your listing is complete and will be published soon.
- Live: Your item is now available to shop in The Shed.
- Sold: Your item has been purchased.
- Paid: Your payout has been sent.
You can select any items from your stored digital closet to Shed. Valuette provides guidance on pricing and demand.
Valuette provides a recommended resale price range based on market data and demand.
You review and set the final listing price.
Yes. You approve the listing price before an item goes live and can adjust it over time.
Valuette may send pricing alerts and suggest changes if an item has been sitting.
Starmoire manages all listing details and photography as part of our intake process. This allows us to create a consistent, high-quality shopping experience across The Shed while ensuring your items are presented using resale industry best practices.
You'll always have visibility into your listings and control over what you list and your pricing. We may also ask you to confirm item condition from time to time.
If you notice missing information, inaccurate details, or have additional context you'd like to add, you can contact us directly through the message feature in the Starmoire app. We'll review your request and update the listing as appropriate.
Yes. If an item hasn’t sold, you can adjust your price at any time.
Valuette may also suggest pricing updates based on demand and timing.
You can keep it listed on The Shed, adjust the price, move it back to your Stored Closet, or request to have it returned to you. You can see its status in My Shed and decide what works best for you – there’s no need to make that decision when you first list it.
Unsold items remain under management and count toward your membership tier while they’re with Starmoire.
Yes. Items can be returned to your stored closet at any time, as long as they haven’t sold.
If an item has already been sold, it can no longer be stored or retrieved.
You can continue using Starmoire by scheduling a pickup for additional items. You can also take a break whenever you’d like. Your Starmoire membership remains active even if you temporarily have no items in storage, making it easy to continue adding, storing, retrieving, and selling items over time. If you decide you no longer want to use the service, you can cancel your membership at any time.
No. Once your items are stored with Starmoire, we handle the photography, listing, packing, and shipping for any items you move into The Shed.
Before listing your first item on The Shed, you'll be asked to complete payout onboarding through Stripe.
Once an item sells and the sale is finalized, proceeds will be paid to your designated payout account via Stripe.
Payouts are typically processed within 7-10 business days of sale finalization.
Starmoire takes a fixed rate of 15% commission on items sold through The Shed.
This covers everything from pricing support and listing to packing, shipping, and payment processing – so the entire resale process is handled for you.
The Shed
The Shed is Starmoire’s resale marketplace, featuring clothing from real member closets. Starmoire members can choose which of their pieces to sell, and anyone can shop – no membership required.
When you’re ready to sell, move an item from your digital closet to My Shed. We’ll review its condition, prepare it for sale, and list it on The Shed once it’s ready. Moving an item to My Shed does not make it immediately available for purchase.
You can follow its progress and track a sale and payout in My Shed. Some items may also be included in curated collections or Featured Closets.
Anyone can shop The Shed once it opens.
Starmoire pilot members may receive early access to new drops, with the first opportunity to shop before items are released more broadly.
Selling is currently limited to Starmoire pilot members.
Most stored items can be listed on The Shed, as long as they meet our quality standards. During intake, we review each piece and will alert customers if something doesn’t meet our standards.
You always decide what to list, and we’ll help ensure your items are positioned to sell.
We accept clothing in a range of conditions, from new to well-loved. During intake, our team inspects each piece and assigns a condition rating. If you choose to sell an item on The Shed, we review it again for resale; not every item suitable for storage will be eligible for listing. We document visible condition issues on Shed listings so shoppers know what to expect.
Items with strong odors, signs of pests, or other issues that make them unsuitable for storage may not be accepted. If we spot a concern, our team will contact you about next steps.
Our condition ratings are:
- New with Tags (NWT): Brand new with original tags attached
- Excellent: No visible wear
- Very Good: Gently used, showing minor signs of wear
- Good: Regularly worn, with moderate wear (light fading, pilling, etc.)
- Fair: Noticeable wear or flaws (stains, repairs), which will be clearly noted
Items are carefully packed to protect their quality and shipped via trusted carriers such as USPS, UPS, or other major providers. All shipments include tracking information.
We offer standard shipping on all orders, with delivery timing shared at checkout based on your location.
Buyers assume the full cost of shipping & handling charges. Shipping costs will be displayed based on location at the point of check out.
Expedited shipping options may be available for select orders. We’ll continue to expand shipping options as The Shed evolves.
During the pilot, we are only shipping domestically within the U.S.
You can track everything directly in your digital closet – including when items are listed on The Shed, purchased, sold, shipped, and paid out.
We’ll also send email updates at key moments. When an item ships, you’ll receive a shipping confirmation with its tracking number so you can follow the delivery.
Due to the unique nature of secondhand items sold through The Shed, all sales are final.
A sale is considered finalized once the item has been delivered to the buyer and delivery has been confirmed.
All sales on The Shed are final, and we do not accept returns for fit or change of mind.
If an item arrives materially different from its description or is damaged in transit, buyers should contact Customer Support within 72 hours of delivery.
Optional return protection may be introduced during the pilot.
We ship all items with standard protection and tracking, so they’re covered in the event of loss or damage during transit.
Starmoire reviews items as part of our listing process to help ensure that they are represented accurately. For select items, we may also use Legitmark, a third-party authentication service. When an item has been authenticated, it will be noted in the product description, and a Legitmark certificate will be provided with the purchase.
If you have concerns about the authenticity or condition of a Shed item, please contact us. Our team will investigate and take appropriate action, including canceling the transaction if needed.
Starmoire members may also ask about having an item in their stored closet or The Shed authenticated. Authentication can build buyer confidence and may help support a stronger sale price.
Valuette
Valuette is Starmoire’s pricing and insight engine. It provides market-based resale value estimates and demand signals for the items in your closet, helping you understand what your wardrobe is worth and when it may be a good time to sell.
Valuette generates a recommended resale value range for each item based on:
- Recent resale market data and comparable sales
- Brand, category, and condition
- Current demand and seasonal trends
You’ll also see:
- A value range for individual items
- A total estimated value range for your stored closet, updated in real time
Yes. Valuette is included as part of your Starmoire experience during the pilot.
No. Valuette provides data-driven estimates only, not guaranteed resale prices. Final sale prices depend on buyer demand, timing, and market conditions.
Trend Index is a 0–100 score that shows how in-demand your item is in the resale market. It’s powered by Valuette and based on real market data, including pricing, sell-through rates, and current demand signals.
How it’s measured:
- 0–54: Low
- 55–75: Moderate
- 76–100: Strong
Higher scores indicate a stronger likelihood of selling, while lower scores suggest it may take longer or require pricing adjustments.
Add-On Services
Some optional services may be available during pilot to help prepare and maintain your garments:
- Garment steaming: $10 per item
- Dry cleaning: priced per garment
- Repairs/alteration: priced per garment
- Fur storage: priced upon request

Your additional storage capacity becomes available immediately, and you'll be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of your current billing cycle. Future invoices will reflect your new monthly membership.
If your stored item count exceeds the capacity of your current plan, Starmoire will notify you and recommend a higher subscription tier based on your inventory. Any changes to your membership and pricing will require your approval before taking effect.
Yes. You can request a smaller membership at any time through the Starmoire app.
If your current stored wardrobe fits within your new membership, the change will automatically take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
If you have more items stored than your new membership allows, you'll first need to reduce your stored inventory before the change can take effect.
Only if your stored wardrobe exceeds the capacity of your new membership.

Just choose the right address each time you book.
You can update your pickup and delivery addresses, as well as service preferences, in Settings.
Once a pickup or retrieval has been confirmed, the address for that request cannot be changed. If you need to make a change after confirmation, please contact our team directly and we’ll help coordinate.
You can update your closet profile information – including your name, tagline, and photo – by going to Profile and selecting Edit.
Your digital closet is private. You can choose to list individual items for sale on The Shed, but shoppers won’t see your full wardrobe or know which pieces are yours unless you participate in a Featured Closet.
We’re working on more ways for members to share and shop closets in future releases. For now, if you’d like to be considered for a Featured Closet featuring the pieces you’re selling, contact our team.
You can update your notification preferences in Settings.
Some notifications – like important account or service updates – are always on. Others, including SMS, push notifications, value alerts, and reminders, can be customized based on your preferences.
If we discontinue service in your area, we’ll coordinate the return of the items we’re managing for you, including eligible unsold items on The Shed, at no cost to you.
